Dear Friends of the Hurley Camp Fund:
We finally saw a return to some normalcy for summer campers as Shire Village Camp re-opened after closing down due to Covid-19 over the two preceding summers.
The Hurley Camp Fund was thrilled to sponsor four kids this year – two camper workers for their final summers, a return camper and a new young camper. Reports are that a great time was had by all:
“Loved camp, and a variety of activities. Farm and Nature, all water activities ...
Enjoyed the fossil trip. Learned how to make puff pastry danishes ...”
“Got her knife card and enjoyed whittling.”
“Always a smile on her face. Went on the Canoe trip. Did the theater intensive, Midsummer Night's Dream.”
Thank you to all of the HCF contributors who made a special “Hurley” summer possible for four young people who otherwise would not get out of the city for a life changing camp experience.
The Board has been busy and is at an important transition stage. Hurley Camp Fund founder and long-time leader Bill Mason has transitioned off the Board. It is with deep gratitude for his inspiration, devotion and leadership that the Board wishes Bill great success in whatever adventures and endeavors he pursues.
With new by-laws, work on an updated web site moving forward and the continued focus of the board on our biggest challenge of attracting new deserving campers -- our new leadership roster is now filled by co-Presidents Judith Bernstein-Baker and Dan Engelhardt; Vice-President Larry Budner; Treasurer Alan Wolsky; and, Secretary Kathy Seward. Our fundamental goal remains the same: send kids to summer camp for the joy, fun and character- building experience uniquely available at a sleepaway camp in the mold of Camp Hurley. Our mission is more important than ever, as the camp experience exposes children to diversity and cooperation in a society torn by division.During these next few years children need to heal from their isolation, and in some cases, loss, due to the pandemic.
Please help us keep the Camp Hurley vision alive by contributing generously this year. The most efficient way to contribute is to follow the link to our secure website via CampHurleyExperience.org, where you can use PayPal or most major credit cards. Greetings to all from the founders of The Hurley Camp Fund. We are a group of about 100 people who initiated this fund in 1991, and who are bound by a single experience: time spent, and memories closely held, by our time in Camp Hurley in the 1950s and 1960s. We have one purpose - to raise money for scholarships to send children ages 8-15 years old to camp so that they may enjoy a similar, life changing experience.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR DONATION
