2024 Greetings from the Hurley Camp Fund

Jan 4, 2024

Dear Friends of the Hurley Camp Fund:

On behalf of the Hurley Camp Fund, we are writing to you to request your support of our efforts to send children to sleep away camp. You may have already received a request, and if you donated, thank you.  But we are reaching out again, in case our email got lost among other holiday news.

We had a meaningful Hurley reunion this past June 11th when we connected with each other and shared what made Camp Hurley so special for us. IF YOU HAVE A MEMORY OR NEWS ABOUT YOURSELF, FRIENDS AND FAMILY YOU WANT TO SHARE please send it through our website, https://www.hurleycampfund.org/ using the Notes and Messages tab. The overwhelming feeling was that at Camp Hurley we could “be ourselves.” It was a place of sanctuary, as well as a place where we could sing our hearts out and  live our principles of diversity, inclusion and equity. The Camp Hurley Fund is our small effort to replicate that experience for children whose families cannot afford to send their children to camp. Last summer we were able to support four children to attend Shire Village Camp-a camp we believe reflects our Hurley values. Here’s who we funded:

A 12 year old recent immigrant from the Dominican Republic who lives in a community for foster care and adopted children. (Funded from a special fund in memory of Susan Fleischer).

An 8 year old Afro-Honduran refugee and his 11 year old sister.

A 12 year old daughter of a single mom who wrote “my most favorite thing was making a wallet out of duct tape….. I can’t wait to go back to camp next summer.”

Please join us in making it possible for at least four deserving children to have a summer camp experience. You can donate through our NEW website https://www.hurleycampfund.org/ or by sending a check payable to the Hurley Camp Fund, PO Box 3033, Lisle, IL 60532.

Feel free to forward this to a relative, friend or colleague!

Best wishes for a peaceful 2024.

Judi Bernstein-Baker, Larry Budner, Alan Glotzer, Marshall Harth, Lowell Waxman, Kathy Seward, and  Alan Wolsky

Greetings to all from the founders of The Hurley Camp Fund.  We are a group of about 100 people who initiated this fund in 1991, and who are bound by a single experience:  time spent, and memories closely held, by our time in Camp Hurley in the 1950s and 1960s.  We have one purpose - to raise money for scholarships to send children ages 8-15 years old to camp so that they may enjoy a similar, life changing experience.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR DONATION
